Good Afternoon Parent and Carers,
As I am sure you will appreciate the next two weeks and beyond are going to pose a number of challenges, many will be unexpected and unprecedented.
I ask that we all pull together and help each other to achieve the safest possible outcomes for our students, community and for each other.
In this time of uncertainty and rapidly changing advice, I would like to ask all to consider the concept of social distancing (1.5 m – double arms distance).
I am very aware that in the context of a school this is quite difficult to achieve.
I have asked that all teachers speak with their children about this and why it is important. I ask all parents to reinforce this with their children at home.
To attempt to do this we have made some changes to school processes.
Starting tomorrow (Tuesday 24 March) the following will come into effect;
Starting tomorrow, we will be separating students waiting in the main under covered area. Students in year 4, 5 and 6 will be directed to the Oval 1 under covered area where they will be supervised by volunteer staff if they arrive to school before 8:30.
Year 1 students will wait in the top level of the main covered area and year 2 and 3 will spread out in the remainder of the main under covered area.
Prep parents have been informed that they are to drop their children at the door.
We will also attempt to space students during eating times.
Year 4 will remain in the oval 2 covered area but, as the weather is not so hot, we suggest moving students out onto grass area if it is safe and practical to do so.
Year 5 will eat in the down stairs area of K block and similarly move students out on to grass areas if it is practical and safe to do so.
Year 6 will move to the under covered area on Oval 3 for eating and can spread out on to grass areas if it is practical and safe to do so.
Prep, year 1, year 2 and year 3,
Please consider the use of grassed/bitumen areas near eating areas and spread out into these spaces when it is practical and safe to do so.
I re-emphasise the importance of handwashing. Most recent communication has suggested multiple times a day. Please encourage students to do this as part of their daily practice and, with younger students, perhaps make it part of the daily class routine until things return to a state of normality.
Parents please reinforce this with your children at home.
Shared IT devices
All school iPads will need to be put away until further notice as we are unable to sanitise between use.
This means that Ipads, laptops and computer labs need to be closed and/or locked away.
Please do not allow students to bring items from home as we cannot guarantee their cleanliness eg., pillows, toys etc
We have been informed today that schools will be allocated additional cleaning hours. I intend to use these hours to have a cleaner on site during the day to assist with maintenance of hygiene in the school.
As indicated in the media, parents have now been given the option to keep children at home.
Students staying at home by parent preference, will no longer be marked as an unauthorised absence. They will now be marked as absence using the other code.
Thank you for your continued support during this time of uncertainty.
Please support each other and help each other through this.
Thank you, stay calm and take care.
