Independent Public School Info Session

14/07/2016
Over the last couple of years approximately 180 schools across Qld have been granted the status of Independent Public Schools.  This year there is the opportunity for a further 70 schools (High Schools and Primary schools) to apply for inclusion to the IPS program.  This will be the last opportunity as the IPS program is capped at 250 schools.  Redland Bay State School is a high performing school with exceptional staff and a very supportive community and I believe we are definitely ready to be an Independent Public School.  Part of the application process involves consultation with our community and our school staff.  I would therefore like to provide a Parent information session at 6.30pm on Tuesday 19th July to present information about the IPS opportunities and also to gain feedback from our parents.  The information session will then lead in to the July P&C General Meeting where I will inform P&C Members about the program.  If parents are positive about progressing with our application I intend to raise it as a Motion at the August P&C Meeting.
The major benefits of being an Independent Public School are:

·    Greater control over employing school staff…we are able to advertise State-wide to fill specific vacancies as they arise

·    One-off payment of  $50,000.00 to assist in the transition to an IPS structure

·    Ability to contract and manage our own maintenance

·   Flexibility to determine and manage our own planning and review processes

·    Establish a School Council

I have attached 2 documents that will provide you with some more detailed information about the IPS program.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on 34794222.
